Steam N' Steel 2020 Convention
The Hamilton Model Engineers Inc. are proud to host New Zealand's Biennial International Model Engineering Convention for 2020. This event attracts hundreds of model engineers from New Zealand and the wider world, to gather sharing knowledge of model engineering and partaking in challenges. Steam N' Steel 2020 will run from Thursday January 9th until Monday January 13th 2020, running for the public all five days from 10:30am - 3pm.
History of Steam N' Steel
Since 1981, New Zealand Model Engineering clubs have held a biennial International Model Engineering Convention, moving between the North & South Islands of New Zealand every two years. The Hamilton Model Engineers hosted their first convention in 2004, named Steam N' Steel. Since then, the convention has toured all around the country, and most recently in Nelson, New Zealand in 2018. We put our hand up to host the convention for the year 2020, and here we are with not long to go until the trains start steaming around the tracks.
History of the Hamilton Model Engineers Inc.
The Hamilton Model Engineers were founded in 1931 and became incorporated in 1936.
Our first track was located in Beerescourt Road and was a 7.25/5/3.5” raised oval track. We were then moved to Seddon Park, followed by a move to Hall Street which was hoped to be our final track.
In 1983 we were informed once again we would be moving. Now we have a wonderful track at Tui Avenue (Minogue Park). With two separate tracks we have over 1.6km of track winding through regenerating native bush, over 6 bridges and through 3 tunnels. The tracks all have a variety of travel choices and variety of grades.
The Hamilton Model Engineers are located in Minouge Park, 24 Tui Avenue, Hamilton, 3200, New Zealand
Where are we located?
We are situated in the middle of Minogue Park. You need to find our entrance at the very end of Tui Avenue, and drive down the park access road. Your best way to find us, is to drive along Forest Lake Rd. Turn into Walsh Ave. Turn Left into Kiwi Ave, and finally Right into Tui Ave. Please note: The Forest Lake end of Tui Ave is ONE WAY - please use this only when leaving.
We're in a great location for attendees visiting from out of town, with the main CBD being only 5-10 minutes drive away, the main state highway only 2-5 minutes drive and many more useful attractions nearby.
Stay up to date!
